Open Homes

Open Homes provides emergency accommodation for 16-25 year olds facing homelessness in the homes of trained volunteer hosts. It runs both a Nightstop scheme (short term for a few nights at a time) and a Supported Lodgings Scheme (longer-term placements for up to three months). The idea is to provide early intervention at a time of crisis with the hope that it will prevent the young person from becoming more entrenched in longer-term homelessness and its associated risks.

Placements can happen seven nights a week with referrals administered from the office Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Roles and required commitment

You can volunteer as either a host (must have a spare room, all training provided) or as a driver. As a host the minimum requirement is that you are willing to host for up to three nights in a row at least once every three months. There is no minimum requirement for drivers, whose role is to safely transport the young person from the referral agency to the host placement.
